The Soldier's Frolic

Fulltext

The Soldier's Frolic

Suppose for a soldier I should go,

Sweetheart what would you say then,

We'd lay in a tent, and pay no rent,

And double it over again.

Suppose I should for a drummer go,

Sweetheart what would you say then,

If you go for a drummer you come to honour,

So double it over again.

Suppose for a fifer I should go,

Sweetheart what would you say then,

If you go for a fifer I will be your wife,

And we'll double it over again.

Suppose my dear I should prove with child,

Sweetheart what would you say then,

I'll get you a fifer to play with the brother,

And double it over again.

Suppose my dear I should chance to die,

Sweetheart what would you say then,

I'll bury you brave and an another I'll have,

And we'll double it over again.
